The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday denied rumours that the government has received two million dollars from Libya as compensation for those who were repatriated from the North African country.
A statement signed by Mr Annan Cato, Chief Director, in Accra said although the ministry is aware of the attack on black Africans, the issue of compensation has not been discussed.
"The ministry wishes to state categorically that no such compensation has been paid and that the rumour is totally without foundation. The officials of the two countries have worked closely in recent weeks to ensure the speedy evacuation of Ghanaians who wish to return home which ended at the weekend," the statement said.
It said the government of Libya only assisted in the evacuation exercise and bore most of the costs involved. More than 5,000 Ghanaians were evacuated in 15 flights after Libyans attacked citizens from sub-Saharan Africa following a dispute over drug and currency trafficking.
