Thoughts on Leading Change

Opinion Thoughts on Leading Change

The word 'Change' means to alter or modify something or to replace it altogether.

Change happens round-the-clock, in major ways and the minute things. The changes in our bodies are what make us grow. Some changes, however, can be indicative of pathogens and illnesses ravaging our bodies.

It is well known by every Ghanaian that a plethora of things needs to be changed in Ghana. There are, however, very few who do something about those undesirable circumstances within their scope of influence. The rest just complain, and knowingly or unknowingly add up to the problem.

Imagine how things would look if everyone discussed solutions, rather than complained?

As a fact, change comes when people take initiative. The idea of change can indeed be daunting because change processes require a lot of effort. This, however, does not mean that it is altogether impossible. A move for change at different points in world history caused the end of apartheid, slavery, and colonization.

To lead any change successfully, we first have to be the change. For example; if you are not happy about the state of sanitation in your neighbourhood, make it a point to start by practicing cleanliness, eschewing public littering among others.

Next, have a well-outlined vision of the worthwhile change you seek to cause. People will more easily commit to a clear, attainable vision.

Where do you want to see change?

Before we attempt tackling major areas, I believe that as Ghanaians, we need to change some minute areas. The first is how we think about problems.

We must view our problems as solvable and thus, by none other than ourselves.

We also ought to change how we speak about our country. In too many of our utterances lies the expression of a lack of confidence about our circumstances and our future as a people. Change leaders must never lose hope in change.

As an unashamed optimist, I would humbly urge that you choose your words well in your discourse about our beloved country.

These two areas are pivotal to any change we wish to see.

Now, what are you going to do to cause change?
