The National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs on the appointments committee of the designated have explained that they were forced to reject Hawa Koomson because she completely lacks knowledge of the Fisheries Ministry.

The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency was last month vetted after being nominated by President Akufo-Addo to serve as the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development.

Unimpressed with answers she gave during her vetting, the Appointments Committee on Monday listed Hon. Hawa Koomson as one of three nominees rejected.

In a press release from the NDC caucus on the appointments committee they have justified the decision to reject the MP.

According to part of the release, “the Minister-designate displayed an alarmingly abysmal lack of knowledge on the sector she was nominated for, making her unfit for the portfolio and therefore untenable to secure the approval of members of the NDC caucus.”

The NDC caucus also explains that the Minister-designate additionally could not provide convincing grounds for the shooting incident during the Voter Registration Exercise in Kasoa on 20th July 2020 even though we acknowledge her belated apology for her recklessly dangerous conduct.

Other nominees rejected by the NDC caucus include Information Minister-designate Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, as well as the Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
