Sekou Nkrumah, one of the three sons of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah has revealed that he, Samia, Gamal and Francis were never allowed to view the remains of their father when he was laid in state.

According to Sekou, the 'sorry' state of his father's dead body as a result of cancer he suffered was the reason why they [Nkrumah's children] were barred from viewing him.

He also describes his father's lifeless body as "almost to the size of a small boy!!!." when it was laid in state, though he had no view of it personally.

"And when he died in 1972 the kids were not allowed to see the body (only our mother did), because of cancer his body shrank so much, almost to the size of a small boy!!!," he wrote in a Facebook post sighted by this portal.

Below is the full Facebook post:

On the day of the 1966 coup, I was only two years old! But my mother (Fathia) said that I demanded to be saluted by the rebellious soldiers, as I was used to the presidential guards greeting me in the morning.

Hahahah as a kid I could not comprehend what was happening.

From there we went into exile in Egypt, and the old man (Nkrumah) who could not return to Ghana, ended up in Guinea Conakry.

During those years in exile he never visited! We were told for security reasons it was not safe for him to travel.

He wrote us letters though, but after 1970 he could only sign his name, the letters were typed! He was then struggling with prostate cancer, and had lost a lot of weight!

And when he died in 1972 the kids were not allowed to see the body (only our mother did), because of the cancer his body shrank so much, almost to the size of a small boy!!!
