The Only Social Democratic Party in Ghana Is NPP

Claiming pontifically and presumptuously that he is the founder of the Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings-led splinter National Democratic Party (NDP), changes absolutely nothing on the ground. The stark factual reality on the ground is that the only political party and/or establishment that legitimately qualifies to be described or designated as a “Social Democratic Party” in Fourth-Republican Ghana is the social intervention-oriented Danquah-Busia-Dombo-inspired and Agyekum-Kufuor and Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP). So, Mr. Richard Owusu-Cobbiah could scream as loudly as he goddamn likes or wants, it still would not change the proverbial price of avocados on the Akyem-Asiakwa Farmers’ Market.

You see, absolutely nothing can alter the fact that neither the Jerry John Rawlings-founded National Democratic Congress (NDC), nor the Owusu-Cobbiah-founded National Democratic Party can lay any legitimate claim to having promulgated the Akufo-Addo-implemented Fee-Free Senior High School (SHS) System or the Agyekum-Kufuor-minted and Akufo-Addo-resuscitated National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), or the School Feeding Program or the Free-Pass Metro-Mass Transit System for our public school children and grandchildren (See “I’m the Original Founder of the NDP, Not Konadu – Owusu-Cobbiah” Modernghana.com 2/23/21). At any rate, it cannot be gainsaid that it was Ghana’s longest-reigning First Lady who gave political presence and whatever heft it may have in the public domain to the National Democratic Party, not a decidedly nationally anonymous and politically marginal Mr. Owusu-Cobbiah.

Bandying about phrases and slogans like “Social Democracy” and “Probity, Accountability, Transparency and Justice” only goes to advertise the leaders of these two faux-left leaning political parties as the veritably ignorant and populist charlatans that they indubitably are. The fact of the matter is that if the members of any political and/or ideological establishments have been pathologically fixated on “property grabbing,” it is definitely the key operatives of the National Democratic Congress and the National Democratic Party and their splinter groups of Cash-and-Carry scam-artist allies. After all, wasn’t it the key operatives of the Jerry Rawlings-led National Democratic Congress that shamelessly pioneered the thievish culture of privatizing state-owned real-estate properties and selling the same to themselves at giveaway prices? So, really, who have been running the property-grabbing political machine that Mr. Owusu-Cobbiah is disdainfully talking about here?

He can lay all the claims that he wants to having founded the National Democratic Party, and not the sassy aging widow of former President Rawlings. At the end of the day, the inescapable fact still remains that the NDP has absolutely nothing worthwhile to proudly claim as its yeomanly contribution to the development of Ghana, short of cadging crumbs of the stolen wealth of the Ghanaian taxpayer from the dinning table of their National Democratic Congress’ overlords and paymasters. As well, daftly using his Asante ethnicity to unconscionably facilitate the wanton wrecking of our beloved nation by his senior collaborators of the National Democratic Congress has also clearly not amounted to the proverbial Hill-of-Beans. It still incontrovertibly stands that the kleptocratic Mahama Posse and its allies among the politically marginal ranks of the National Democratic Party are still epic losers and casualties of the 2020 General Election. And no amount or number of street-protest marches and demonstrations is apt to change this stark fact and practical reality.

The fact also stands that Kwame Nkrumah did not found Modern Ghana any more than Chairman Jeremiah John Rawlings could legitimately be said to have founded or designed Fourth Republican Ghanaian Democracy. Historically speaking, no military dictator who was forced by external and internal forces to give up power ever founded any constitutionally democratic republic anywhere in the world. It is only grossly misguided congenital buffoons and clinical idiots who would reason like Mr. Owusu-Cobbiah.
