Health Akatsi South: Municipal Hospital to train new doctors in surgery

Dr Karikari Bonsu, the medical superintendent of Akatsi South Municipal Hospital has disclosed that the facility has been given accreditation from the Ghana Medical and Dental Council to give basic surgical training skills to newly qualified doctors.

According to a statement signed by Dr Divine Banyubala, the acting Registrar of the Council, the accreditation could be withdrawn if its standard has been misused within the two years allocated period.

The council indicated that the main idea behind the accreditation was to give clear practical knowledge to the medical doctors in surgical operation.

Dr Karikari Bonsu also explained to ModernGhana News that, the new doctors will be trained in medical aspects such as Knotting, handling bowels, handling vessels, abdominal incision and closure, instrumental handling, handling suturing theatre etiquette, haemostastics and many more.

He also stated that the program which happened to be the first of its kind is aimed at training the housemen to have standard techniques which will prepare them to perform varied clinical and surgical activities.

Dr Bonsu added that, in every year three newly qualified doctors will be trained in surgical operations which would enable them have the required qualification for standard medical practices.

Information gathered by ModernGhana News also shows that the Akatsi Municipal Hospital receives surgical emergency cases from Adidome district hospital, Sogakope district hospital, Keta municipal hospital among others.

Dr Bonsu further appealed to authorities to complete the abandoned hospital project which is almost near completion to enhance health care delivery.

The abandoned hospital projects were fading out in the bush, the team gathered.
