TEIN- KNUST demands release of 'missing' colleague over allegedly threat to burn down Supreme Court

The Tertiary Education Institution Network (TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is appealing to the Ghana police service and the government to release one of their colleagues, Simon Awuni Ayamga who was recently arrested.

The 33-year-old Emergency Nursing Student at KNUST was reportedly arrested by alleged joint police/Intelligent operatives in Kumasi on February 6, 2021.

He was alleged to have threatened in a WhatsApp group to burn down the Supreme Court if the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensah was not allowed to mount the witness box.

Members of TEIN KNUST in a press release on February 13, 2021, expressed remorse on behalf of their colleague over his action as they called on the government to show clemency.

“On behalf of the entire Students wing of the NDC KNUST, we humbly apologize for the damages and breach of the law caused by our dear student Simon Awini Ayamga,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, lawyers of the student have said ever since the news of his arrest broke, efforts to know his whereabout has proven futile.

Relatives of him who spoke to the media are also worried about the whereabouts of their son.

According to executives of TEIN KNUST, “academics is one key factor that shapes our lifestyle, we are with much confidence that the arrest alone could set a standard for all students across the country as well as youth to live well in accordance of the laws of the country, that is the supremacy of the law.”

With less than two weeks to write mid-Semester Examinations in KNUST members of TEIN-KNUST by the release and through the media, would like to plead on behalf of Simon Awuni Ayamga and ask for release with immediate effect.

Also, speaking to Focus FM's John Essien, President of TEIN KNUST, Agyemang Simon gave the government a three-day ultimatum to release their colleague to avoid further actions to be taken.

"Actually we're giving the government a three-day ultimatum, if we don't hear anything from the government we'll take further actions," he emphasised.
