The 88 Districts Hospitals have not started because 13 districts yet to provide lands – Agyeman-Manu

Kweku Agyeman-Manu, the Health Minister Designate has said the 13 district hospitals promised by the President is yet to begin because 13 districts have not provided lands for the construction to begin.

He revealed that a team was put together by the President to work towards the materialization of the vision.

The Minister designate made this known during his vetting by Parliament's Appointments Committee on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.

“It was the vision of the President to see those hospitals completed within the promised time so he set up a committee including all the key stakeholders and we started working. We asked all the district to give us land for the construction of the hospitals.

“As I speak we still have about 13 districts that have not completed the exercise of giving us lands and site plan for the works to be done”.

Answering a question posed to him by the committee, Mr Agyeman-Manu explained that the Ministry of Finance has assured his ministry that there will be budgetary allocation for the project.

It would be recalled that the President last year in his regular COVID-19 updates to the country promised that his government was going to build 88 district hospital for districts without such hospitals as well as six regional hospitals.

President Akufo-Addo indicated that “each of them will be a quality, standard design 100-bed hospital with accommodation for doctors, nurses, and other health workers”.
