The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), has begun distribution of laptops to its beneficiaries across the country.

The laptop scheme was introduced by the SLTF as an intervention to facilitate student participation in online learning programmes that have been introduced by many tertiary institutions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and to bridge the digital divide in tertiary education.

The SLTF has over 30,000 students currently benefiting from loans, all of whom have had to shift to online learning due to closure of university campuses nationwide.

“Our mandate is to ensure that students are provided with the necessary financial and other resources which would enable them to pursue their tertiary education smoothly” said Nana Kwaku Agyei Yeboah, CEO of the SLTF.

“Since the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted academic work, we needed to explore ways in which we could support our students to make life a little easier for them,” he said.

The Disbursement Manager of the SLTF, Mr. Dan Tawiah said that students who are receiving financial assistance from the SLTF can request that a portion of their loan is used to provide them a laptop.

“The good thing about the scheme is that students can get a high end HP laptop now, without paying upfront,” he said.

The laptop scheme is part of the loan facility offered by the SLTF and can be accessed by all tertiary students offering accredited programmes in recognized institutions.
