The ongoing special voting has not stopped President Nana Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party from campaigning in the Ashanti Region ahead of the December polls.

The President, who is on the second day of his campaign tour has told residents of Asokwa to reject any independent candidate contesting the incumbent MP, Madam Patricia Appiah Adjei.

“I am your President and the leader of the party. I cannot work with any independent candidate. I can only work with Patricia Adjei, the elected candidate.”

The NPP has been stressing the importance of a loyal turnout to its strongholds.

President Akufo-Addo has consistently urged party supporters to ignore party members who have gone independent, especially in the Ashanti Region.

He recently urged the chiefs and people of Fomena in the Ashanti Region to persuade their Member of Parliament, Andrew Amoako Asiamah to rescind his decision to contest as an independent candidate in the upcoming general elections.

“You need to speak to him. The decision will not help him. It will also not help you. He will not profit from it and it will not be profitable to me, because I am an NPP member, and I work with NPP people. In future, by the grace of God when I still have the power, it is NPP people I will govern this country with,” he said.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Bosiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, said the party’s agenda to win all 47 seats in the region is on course.

“In 2020 we are taking what is ours. We have an agenda 47 out of 47. We cannot miss out on 47 out of 47. It is a movement.”

“We want a 98 percent turnout and 90 percent of the votes,” Chairman Wontumi stressed.
