Politics Ignore Mahama; Akufo-Addo Introduced Free SHS – Nana Akomea
NOV 25, 2020 LISTEN

A member of the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Communications team, Nana Akomea has rubbished claims by former President John Dramani Mahama that he introduced the free Senior High School (FSHS) programme.

Mr. John Dramani Mahama during a campaign tour of the Upper East Region said the Free SHS programme was started by his government in 2015.

He said the current government poorly implemented the programme, which compelled them to adopt the double-track system.

He then assured to “cancel the double-track system,” when he is re-elected.

But Nana Akomea in an interview on Face to Face on Citi TV said, “the NDC claims they instituted free SHS policy when even a 10-year-old boy knows that they were against it.”

“Akufo-Addo implemented the policy, which was a campaign promise,” he noted.

He further said the free SHS intervention by the government has come to remove inter-generational poverty.

“Free SHS comes with the extension of basic schools, from JHS to SHS. What it means is that every Ghanaian child will be assured of education up to the secondary school level. It has never happened in this country. The impact of removing inter-generational poverty is awesome.”

“When you look at the reviews of this country, that a third-world country is able to do this, then we should be proud of ourselves. One of the problems in this country is income distribution. We have struggled with finding ways to redistribute income, and free SHS is one of the clear ways in letting ordinary people share in the oil revenue,” Nana Akomea said.
