Politics Lets Avoid Complacency And Work Hard For Victory – Prof. Gyan Baffour
NOV 24, 2020 LISTEN

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Wenchi, Prof. George Gyan Baffour who doubles as Minister for Planning is making a passionate call to all NPP faithful and sympathizers to avoid being complacent and rather work hard toward a massive electoral victory come December 7.

“We have suffered from this (complacency) before….sometimes some people would assume that we have already won and that even if they don’t vote, the party will still emerge victorious. I’ll urge all party members to discard that notion completely because it’s all about numbers and so if you remain in your home and refuse to go and cast your ballot, it could lead to our defeat eventually”, he said.

Prof Gyan Baffour noted that complacency was one of the major factors that led to the defeat of the NPP during the 2008 elections as well as the NDC about four years ago and that it was extremely important to attach maximum seriousness to the various campaign strategies to secure an overwhelming victory next month.

“I’ll urge voters to approach the contest as if the NPP is in opposition and wants to come to power and should not take chances at all. Everyone should work extra hard in the last few days left.”

The MP was speaking to the media at Wenchi last Monday after taking delivery of a Fiat Pick-up vehicle, a motor-bike, NPP branded t-shirts, PPEs and assorted food items from Madam Akosua Nketia Taylor, a native of the area and a leading member of the NPP.

Madam Taylor, together with Kwaku Bowiansa Abrefa, Board Member of Bui Power Authority; Yaw Kwakwa, the CEO of Ghana Airports Company; Ms. Ellen Ama Daaku, Board Member of Minerals Development Fund, made the donation to support the NPP’s campaign activities in the Wenchi constituency.

Prof. Gyan Baffour noted that it would be extremely dangerous for Ghanaians to vote against the NPP in the December elections because that would have dire consequences on Ghana’s developmental path, adding that it would also erase the gains made under the Akufo-Addo led government.

“If the NPP does not stay in power continuously for about 20 years, all the efforts would come to naught. I see this election as a call to the country to endorse the continuation of the various policies and programmes we are currently rolling out. I’m sure we will win this election and win again in the subsequent elections,” he added.

Madam Akosua Nketia Taylor pledged her continued support to the party’s campaign in the area and the nation as a whole and asked all Ghanaians to rally behind the NPP in the coming election to secure a brighter future for the country.

The Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive, Dr Prince Kwakye, for his part touted several developmental initiatives being undertaken in the area, including the 30 million Euro Wenchi Water Improvement project, GH.C 41 million Koase Model SHS project and the GH.C 27 Droboso–Agubie–Badu road works.

He was positive that the “Electoral Area-based development” by the Assembly coupled with the hard work by the MP for the area, Prof Gyan Baffour explain why the electorate should come out in their numbers and vote for the NPP on December 7.

Dr. Kwakye commended an anonymous native of Wenchi who after witnessing the massive developments in the area during a visit has donated 600 branded NPP t-shirts in support of the party’s campaign.
