Policing The Ballot Box

Policing The Ballot Box
20.11.2020 LISTEN

Congratulations to all Ghanaians especially the youth on how peacefully we have conducted ourselves during the campaign period in this election year. Unlike the previous electioneering years, there were no massive campaigns and there have not been much electoral violence during this period. We can attribute this situation to the existence of COVID-19.

According to health authorities, COVID-19 cases in the country is on the rise, we are therefore advised to adhere to all the safety protocols; wearing of nose masks, washing of hands, use of hand sanitizers, avoiding handshakes, keeping of social distance and many more.

On 7th December 2020, some 17 days from today, Ghanaians will go to the polls for qualified Ghanaian voters to exercise their franchise and elect the president and parliamentarians as well. Your vote is your power and so once you qualify to vote, please go and exercise your constitutional right.

There are security agencies assigned to provide security before, during and after the elections. They are to protect lives and properties. There will be party or polling agents at polling stations to represent the various political parties. These agents were selected and trained by their parties to keep watch for them during the election process. They know what to do if they suspect any anomaly during the process.

On the day of voting, your responsibility as an eligible voter is to go to the polling station with your voter’s ID card, join the queue if any and wait for your turn to cast your vote. After voting please leave the premises and you can return to observe the counting of votes when the voting ends at the given time. Kindly be COVID-19 conscious and observe the safety protocols throughout the process.

Dear voter, especially the youth, you are not meant to protect (police) the ballot box. Do not allow yourself to be recruited by any politician and be used for any illegal activities during this voting period. Remember electoral offences are crime punishable by law and you can be convicted / fined or both when found guilty. Do not be used as a scapegoat. Cast your vote for Ghana, let peace win and see you in the victory party. God bless you and bless Ghana.
