Liberia Gender Embarks On Nationwide Monitoring of Adolescent Girls' Programs

(Monrovia, Liberia - Tuesday, November 17, 2020) The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection with support from UNICEF is conducting a routine quarterly monitoring activities aimed at tracking basic information about NGOs that are involved with adolescent girls’ related programs and initiatives. The nationwide monitoring exercise is also measuring the alignment of programs/projects to the needs of adolescent girls in their respective localities. The exercise focuses on understanding the nature and scope of services being provided for adolescent girls as well as the utilization and accessibility of these services to target groups and the level of coordination among partner organizations providing these services.

Already the Ministry has concluded monitoring of thirteen (13) Adolescent Girls' Programs in Grand Cape Mount and Montserrado Counties which ran from November 12 - 14, 2020.

Some of those Institutions monitored were: New Liberian Women Skill Training Organization, Paramount Young Women Organization (PAYOWI), Helping Our People Excel (HOPE), Youth Movement for Collective Action, BRAC and Mwashnoh Tuan Foundation all of Montserrado County. In Grand Cape Mount County, Gender monitored the EU Spotlight Economic Empowerment Project of thirty-six (36) at-risk adolescent girls.

Madam Hawa Kenneth - Acting Program Officer of Adolescent Girls Division, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection stated that the monitoring exercise will reach Nimba County beginning Thursday, November 19, 2020.

The Ministry of Gender noted that the exercise when completed will document key deliverables relative to outcomes, progress made by adolescent girls enrolled in the project, its impact on their lives and constraints encountered by beneficiaries and implementing organizations which would be used to further improve on future projects.
