OCT 27, 2020 LISTEN

An independent parliamentary candidate in the Sunyani West constituency of the Bono Region, Bernard Oduro Takyi says he is unperturbed by persons trying to use his physical challenge against him in the run-up to the December 7 elections.

Mr. Oduro Takyi who has an issue with one of his legs is optimistic of winning the parliamentary seat despite the challenge.

While launching his campaign at Fiapre, Bernard Oduro Takyi, a leading contender in the parliamentary race in the Sunyani West constituency hit back at his critics who are using his physical challenge to attack him.

Bernard Oduro Takyi during the launch of his campaign and manifesto noted that the 2020 parliamentary election in the Sunyani West constituency is about who is capable of transforming the constituency and not about the one who is able or physically challenged.

“Let me admit; disability is not inability. In the history of America, the only President who was allowed to rule for 12 years was Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and this was a President who was physically challenged. Governance is not about physical disability it is about the vision of the person, competence, and integrity. In my political journey, I have demonstrated these qualities.”

He noted that though he is physically challenged he has achieved a lot.

“Even in my physical disability, I have achieved a lot in both academics and my line of duty. In 2019, I emerged as the best Presiding Member in Ghana.”

He further added that “I rose to become President of Commonwealth Hall at the University of Ghana, Legon, in 2008. In the year 2020 in Sunyani West, people are not looking for physical ability or physical disability, they are looking for a leader who can give them a sense of direction.”

He was once the Assembly Member for the Kwatiri Electoral.

The Mother of Bernard Oduro Takyi, Rose Adwubi Asante indicated that despite the disability of her son, he is capable of leading the constituency.

She called on the constituents in the Sunyani West constituency to give her son an opportunity to serve them.

“I want to say that we support someone who does good things…BOT is bold; he does not promise what he cannot do. People of Fiapre on December 7 vote for him,” she said.
