Even the General-Secretary of his own party, the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, has gone on record as categorically asserting that it was the abject lack of vigilance on the part of Akufo-Addo polling agents, assigns and representatives that caused the skin-of-teeth defeat of the then Candidate Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the 2012 Presidential Election, with the collusive and collaborative complicity of the extant Electoral Commission’s Chair, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, and not either the electoral or political formidability of the then Interim-President John Dramani Mahama or the administrative competence of the latter, for that matter.
Ultimately, a dubious electoral victory would be cooked and delivered by the fellow northerner-headed panel of the Supreme Court of Ghana that handed down the most tentative and patently unwholesome, to speak less about the decidedly unprofessional, electoral victory in Ghana’s postcolonial history. For his rather reprehensible impugnation of the credibility of the Jean Adukwei Mensa-headed Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to muster scrutiny or carry any remarkable modicum of heft, Candidate Mahama has a bounden obligation to tell Ghanaians which election was conducted by the Rawlings-appointed and Mahama-decorated Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan whose results or outcomes were unreservedly accepted by the Rawlings-imposed three-time Candidate John Evans Atta-Mills.
Indeed, to the end of the 8-year tenure of former President John Agyekum-Kufuor, former Vice-President John Evans Atta-Mills was in vehement protestation mode and farcically insistent that the 2000 and the 2004 Presidential Elections had been won by the former Rawlings’ arch-lieutenant and the National Democratic Congress but, somehow, a clinically dyslexic Dr. Afari-Gyan had mistakenly called the results of both historic elections in favor of the Agyekum-Kufuor-led New Patriotic Party (NPP). In essence, what is crystal clear here is that in the playbook of the key operatives of the National Democratic Congress, absolutely no general or presidential election has ever taken place or been conducted in Ghana by the Electoral Commission (GEC) that was kosher or not massively flawed, even when the Chairperson of the GEC was the choosing or bona fide appointee of the leaders of the National Democratic Congress. Indeed, for quite a while, the late Prof. Atta-Mills and Mr. Johnson Asiedu-Nketia were insistent that President Kufuor’s presidency was not legitimate because the latter’s victory had not been duly and promptly gazetted.
It is also significant to note that upon his retirement in 2014, or thereabouts, the then-President John Dramani Mahama would lavishly decorate the same Dr. Afari-Gyan who had supposedly performed far below standard, by the playbook of the Mills-Mahama Posse, that is, and honor the former University of Ghana’s political science professor with the highest national civil order. Then, exactly a year ago, as many Ghanaians may still vividly recall, His Royal Majesty, The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei-Tutu, II, told a plenary session of the United Nations’ General Assembly, right here in New York City, that even after an incumbent President John Dramani Mahama had convincingly lost the 2016 Presidential Election to the then Candidate Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo by more than a humongous One-Million Votes, or nearly 10-percent of the tallied valid votes, the former Rawlings’ Communications Minister was dead-set against wisely and maturely conceding defeat and had to be earnestly prevailed upon by The Asantehene to concede the globally obvious.
Not surprisingly, a pathologically self-infatuated Mahama would release a press statement in which the man who has invidiously called the sense of gratitude of ethnic Asantes into question, vehemently and brazenly sought to contradict Otumfuo Osei-Tutu, II. It would be practically absurd not to expect that within the realm of the fallibly human, that even the most skillful application of technological software and equipment would be totally devoid of its own fair share of glitches and snafus. To be certain, what is egregiously and unacceptably flawed vis-à-vis the imminent conduct of the 2020 General Election by the Jean Adukwei Mensa-headed Independent Electoral Commission, is the rather blasphemously criminal presumption by thoroughgoing corrupt megalomaniacal politicians like Mr. John “Airbus-Kanazoe” Dramani Mahama that, somehow, the rules of the most wholesome manner in which to conduct the 2020 General Election must be one that is personally endorsed or prescribed by the former President himself. What kind of arrant nonsense is this?
