Aggrieved Customers Of Defunct Microfinance Firms Threaten To Punish NPP On December 7

The Coalition of Aggrieved savings and loan customers have threatened to punish NPP Government by voting out President Akufo-Addo in the December polls if the party fails to fulfil its promise to pay their monies in full.

The group, on Thursday, October 15, 2020, embarked on a peaceful protest through the principal streets of Techiman in the Bono East Region, demanding payment of their locked up cash.

The group consisted of customers of defunct, collapsed savings and loans companies including Care for Humanity Fun Club International, God is Love Fun Club, Jasta Motors and Investment, and Little Drops Helping Hand.

The demonstration was to draw the government’s attention to their plight.

The customers, who were over 50,000 lamented over the difficulty of life as a result of their locked up cash.

The spokesperson for the group, Mr. Ernest Anieba, stated that the president was voted based on the promises he made to pay the customers of these defunct companies.

“Your government, the NPP was solely voted into power in 2016 because you promised to pay back our investment monies in these companies, notwithstanding whether it was registered or unregistered microfinance or fan clubs. Mr. President, whether registered or unregistered fan clubs and microfinance, we are all Ghanaians and deserve to be treated with equality, fairness, and justice.”

He added that despite these promises they have been met with disappointments and deception.

The Director of the Bono Regional Coordinating Council, Mr. George Padmore Mensah who received the group’s petition urged the members to exercise restraint and give the government ample time to work towards paying them.

“This petition has been received, I’ll discuss with my minister, and we will forward accordingly. It will certainly reach the President. Let us all hope that some good news will come and our people will have some comfort because making an investment to go bad is so disturbing and I hope that by the statement that the President made, he is going to take care of you because you people are the citizens of Ghana so let us all exercise a bit of restraint and give the government time to deliver on this.”
