The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa had wanted flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama to have filed his nomination forms in person.

According to her, she would have used the opportunity to engage the NDC flagbearer on his concerns with ongoing electoral processes.

Mr. Mahama’s nomination forms were submitted by NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia on Wednesday, October 7, 2020.

The former President, last month, September 2020, suspended his tour of the Bono Region over the alleged missing names on the new voters' register.

He held a press conference thereafter to raise concerns over the development.

Mahama and the NDC have always taken on the electoral management body in protest of processes leading up to the 2020 polls.

Madam Mensa said she had hoped Mr. Mahama would have presented the nomination forms himself so that the Commission could have used the opportunity to engage him on some his concerns.

“As a Commission, we wished that former President John Mahama and/or his Vice Presidential candidate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang would have been here personally to present their nomination forms. As it would have allowed us an opportunity to engage particularly with the former President on some of his concerns we have noted in the media,” she stated.

The EC chairperson stated that the filing of the nomination forms is a very important activity as without the presidential candidates they would not be a need for the organisation of an election.
