This week's quiz:  On 25 July I asked you a question about Sudan. We had just published an article on the RFI English website about Omar al-Bashir, the former Sudanese strongman who was deposed after a huge civilian protest movement last year. Bashir is on trial, along with 16 alleged co-plotters, for their roles in the 1989 coup d'état which brought Bashir to power. Bashir is currently in prison, serving time for corruption and money laundering.

In our article entitled “Sudan's Bashir goes on trial for the 1989 coup d'état”, you learned the name of the democratically elected prime minister who was deposed 31 years ago by that coup d'état, allegedly led by Omar al-Bashir.

.The answer is: Sadiq al-Mahdi. Sadiq al-Mahdi was the prime minister of Sudan on two occasions: first briefly in 1966-67, and then again from 1986 until his ousting on 30 June 1989. He's the leader of the Umma Party – obviously a Bashir opposition party – and has continued to lead the party since the 1989 coup d'état. Mahdi has been in and out of Sudan since the coup: he returned to Khartoum in 2017, and still lives there.

The winners are: Mrs. Anjana Parvin, the Secretary of the Shetu RFI Listeners Club in Naogaon, Bangladesh, and Saleem Akhtar Chadhar, the president of the RFI Seven Stars Radio Listeners Club in District Chiniot, Pakistan.

There are two RFI Listeners Club members on the list of lucky winners this week: Mr Selvaraj, from Tamilnadu, India, and Karniz Fatema Sanu from Narayanganj, Bangladesh. Last but not least: Abu Bakarr Turay from Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Congratulations winners!
