The Agona District Assembly received a total of 18 billion cedis as its share of the Common Fund during the past four years to finance development projects.

The money was used to build schools and clinics, rehabilitation and construction of roads, provision of sanitation equipment and other social amenities.

Mr Ben Mensah, District Chief Executive, said this at the last meeting of the assembly at Agona Swedru in the Central Region.

He said a total of 1.1 billion cedis from the Common Fund were allocated to 1,000 beneficiaries while 350 million cedis were given to 350 women under the Women Development Fund. The assembly spent 549.135 million cedis to sponsor 308 students at various levels of education.

The assembly, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), also spent 85 million to organise the Science Technology Mathematics Education Clinic (STME). Another 35 million cedis was spent to organise the Best Teacher Award for 2001/2005 and 2.7 million to provide 16,000 dual desks for schools in the district.

The Presiding Member of the Assembly, Alhaji Osumanu Abeka, praised the members for their hard work and dedication.

He urged people contesting the forth-coming district assembly and unit committee elections to engage in clean campaign devoid of insults and defamation of character.
