CODA Hold Maiden Staff Durbar

The Coastal Development Authority (CODA) on Monday 31st August, 2020 held its maiden staff durbar at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture Resource Centre in Accra.

The participants were staff drawn from the Head Office and the six (6) regions of Ghana under the Coastal Development Zone, namely Western, Western North, Central, Greater Accra, Volta and the Oti Regions. The theme for the durbar was, “Executing Our Mandate in the Midst of COVID-19 Pandemic: The Role of CODA Staff”.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CODA, Lawyer Jerry Ahmed Shaib in his welcome address expressed his gratitude to the staff for their continuous hard work, support and cooperation in the discharge of their mandates in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to him, the success of the Authority is through their collective efforts and commitment.

He encouraged management to ensure that they discharge their duties diligently through proper supervision and monitoring. He also asked regional heads to make sure that staff are always punctual to work and discharge their duties effectively and efficiently, especially at the various regional offices.

He also inspired staff to always have in their minds the objects and target goals of the Authority and ensure that their services impact on the lives of the people they are serving. He took the opportunity to also advise staff to be punctual to work and respect authorities in their discharge of duties.

He further advised staff to always dress properly in order to give the Authority a very good image since appearance is very vital in the formation of impression. According to the CEO feedback from staff is very significant since they are the internal publics of the Authority and through constant information flow it will help in addressing issues as early as possible.

A Deputy CEO of CODA, Mr. Kingsley Karikari-Bondzie who was present at the durbar also advised heads of departments and units to always ensure that staffs abide by all ethics in their various units. He explained that the Authority can always succeed if there is constant information flow. He also thanked the staff for their continuous support and hard work by ensuring the protection of the people during this pandemic period.

The Assistant Secretary of the Public Service Workers Union (PSWU), Mr. John Sampah thanked the CEO and Management of CODA for their maximum and prompt cooperation by facilitating the process of staff being registered under the Union. He expressed his satisfaction for the manner CODA has handled the registration process.

He took the opportunity to inaugurate the interim executives of the CODA-PSWU through swearing of oath. The interim executives are William Abban Ghansah (Chairman), Dennis Owusu Boateng (Vice Chairman), Lucy Turkson-Cofie (Vice Chairperson), Vivian Amissah (Secretary), Rabiatu Sowah (Assistant Secretary). The remaining are Godslove Otabil (Trustee), Dorothy Ohenewaa Okai (Trustee) and Raymond Owusu Agyeman (Youth Leader).

He advised the interim executives to ensure that they serve well in their various positions until elections are held to appoint substantive executives. Mr Sampah also thanked the current government for creating more job opportunities in the country.

Officials from the Hedge Pensions Scheme made a presentation to CODA staff and explained the rationale behind the tier 2 and tier 3 of the contribution. They encouraged staff to access tier 3 of the contributions since it is very beneficial.

The CEO, Lawyer Jerry Ahmed Shaib in his closing remarks thanked the staff for attending this maiden staff durbar and emphasized that this first one has paved way for more engagements. He encouraged staff to ensure they discharge their duties diligently in other to help the Authority meet its target goals.
