Nana Aforo Kwaw II, Chief of Debiso, a major cocoa growing area in the Western Region has commended the government for fulfilling most of its election promises to bring improvement in the lives of the people.

He said the provision of development infrastructure such as schools, health, roads, coupled with the introduction of programmes to enhance human resource development were ample testimony of this assertion.

Nana Aforo Kwaw was speaking at a grand durbar organised by the chiefs and people of Debiso in the Bia district in honour of Mr Anthony Evans Amoah, the new Western Regional Minister last Wednesday.

The Minister was in the area as part of his four-day familiarisation tour of the Juaboso, Bia and Sefwi-Wiaso districts.

The chief of Debiso, who presided over the function said, "about 90 per cent of the electoral promises of the Government had been fulfilled", he however added that there is more to be done to make life enjoyable to the people particularly in the rural areas.

Nana Aforo Kwaw, who was onetime the winner of national best farmer award, expressed the people's gratitude to the government for introducing the schools capital grant, the school-feeding programme to improve education and also credit facilities to enhance the agricultural sector. He appealed to the government to extend the on-going rehabilitation of the Tano-Benchima barrier road project to Oseikojokrom on the border with Cote d'Ivoire.

Mr Amoah told the people that his administration would give priority attention to the area's development because the Bia district, being one of the newly created districts and considered to be a deprived area, is confronted with many challenges.

Mr Amoah emphasised that the government was doing everything in its power to reduce poverty and improve the lives of the people, all that it needs is the cooperation, unity and peace among them for effective implementation of laudable policies and programmes
