The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Hon. Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, alias General Mosquito has revealed that Hon. Mahama Ayariga has agreed to step down as the Minority Spokesperson on Constitutional & Legal Affairs to become the Spokesperson of Professor John Evans Atta Mills.
Before now, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Hon. Mahama Ayariga has been under serious pressure from the National Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to step down as Spokesperson for Prof. John Evans Atta Mills.

Information available to the Searchlight reveals that on at least two occasions he has been contacted to reconsider his decision to be the spokesperson for Professor John Evans Atta Mills because of his executive position. Prof. Mills is an aspiring presidential candidate of the NDC. Ayariga has since agreed to relinquish the position of Ranking Member of the Committee for Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.

Yesterday, the General Secretary of the NDC, Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah told the Searchlight newspaper that the Party has already made its position clear on the matter of Hon. Mahama Ayariga. “We have stated our position clearly. The position is that he cannot remain a ranking member once he has decided to be on Prof. Mills' campaign,” said Hon. Asiedu Nketiah.

He was however quick to point out that the decision and communication between NEC and Hon. Ayariga has been highly cordial, totally lacking in antagonism. He decried the way and manner the matter has been reported in the media, painting a picture of antagonism between himself and Hon. Ayariga
