All the 120 rural banks in Ghana were to be computerized and linked up in a Wide Area Network (WAN) as part of the benefits of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA), reported Ghana News Agency on Tuesday.

Minister of Public Sector Reform Paa Kwesi Nduom said 22 million U.S. dollars were to be dedicated to the transformation when he briefed the media in Ghana's capital of Accra about the import of the Millennium Challenge Ghana Program.

The MCA program logic was to reduce poverty through agricultural modernization, as programmed in the Growth Poverty Reduction Strategy II, said Nduom

It is also to ensure increased production of high value cash and staple crops while enhancing competitiveness of agricultural products in regional and international markets.

Nduom, who is also chairman of the Millennium Challenge Development Authority (MiDA) Board, said that only rural banks in the 23 districts benefiting from the MCA would be disbursing the funds, stressing "these funds would have to be paid back to ensure that other people benefit as well".
