Look for proficiency in English in choosing Assembly members-NALAG

The president of the National Association of Local Authority in Ghana, Mr Kyei Baffour has advised the Ghanaian electorate, to seriously research into the background of aspirants for the upcoming District Assembly elections in September.

According to him, among the things they should look out for, is proficiency in the English language. He said good knowledge in English language is an added advantage to enable assembly members to perform better.

Speaking on the “Action Point” Talkshow programme on Kapital Radio in Kumasi, Mr Baffour also, advocated for better conditions of service for assembly and unit committees members, to make the decentralization process more effective. According to him the country stands to loose greatly if the allowances and benefits of assembly members continue to be ignored.

He underscored the need for better conditions in the sector to help attract qualified personnel to the assemblies. The Public Relations Director of the Electoral Commission, Mr Samuel Yorke Aidoo revealed that feverish preparations are underway to ensure a smooth electoral process.

He noted that, his outfit is in constant touch with all the major players to ensure that no one is disadvantaged. He called for more collaboration from the electorate to ensure the success of the elections.
