Sex workers plot showdown with Police

Commercial sex workers who ply their trade around the Nickis night club and the Flemish pub, near Madina Zongo Junction in the Greater Accra Region, have braced themselves up for a showdown with personnel of the Madina Police station.

According to the prostitutes, they intend showing the men in black some of their bitter lessons for repeatedly extorting money and sexually abusing them.

In recent times, personnel of the Madina Police are seen arresting prostitutes in Madina.

The unsuspecting cops usually engage in the duty of arresting the sex workers by using their taxis, and, according to some of the prostitutes, the motive behind such police arrest are twofold.

Firstly, money is extorted from them and in some cases the police demand half rounds of sex from the prostitutes in exchange for their freedom.

It is against the police action that last Friday night, the commercial sex workers, who ply their trade near the Madina Zongo Junction, held a brief but serious meeting, opposite the Madina offices of the Progressive Transport Owners Association.

The Ghanaian Voice upon getting a hint of the meeting, sniffed around and the discussions that took place indicate a coup plot against the police.

As a first step, the prostitutes have decided to employ the services of drug peddlers at the Madina market as their personal guards.

Each prostitute, it was agreed, is to have her own paid guard. As part of their duties, these guards are to monitor their mistresses and intervene to stop any police officers who come to arrest or intimidate the mistress, by insisting that the person was not a sex worker but actually the girl over or wife.

Unarmed plain clothed policemen and potential customers who harass the prostitutes would however receive instant beating from these paid guards.

It was agreed at the meeting that each guard would be paid 100,000 cedis per night but dependent on the mistress's bargaining power.

A sub- plot agreed upon by the prostitutes at the meeting was to keep blades and other sharp objects on them so as to inflict deep cut on the manhood of the policemen who demand sex after arresting them.
Some of the prostitutes established that the policemen sometimes demanded 200,000 cedis from them so as to set them (prostitutes) free.
