H.E. John Agyekum Kufuor left Accra on Wednesday for Monrovia, Liberia, to attend the 159th Independence Anniversary celebration of the Republic of Liberia as the Special Guest of Honour.

While in Liberia, President Kufuor will join his Liberian counterpart to inaugurate the Liberian Emergency Power Project (EPP), built by the Volta River Authority of Ghana.

Several years of civil war has resulted in the destruction of most utility services, in Liberia, including water supply and Electricity.

Since the country returned to democratic rule under Mrs Johnson Sirleaf, a year ago, Ghanaian technocrats have been involved in the restoration of utility services in Liberia.

President Kufuor was accompanied by Foreign Minister, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo and some senior government officials.

He is expected back this evening.
