The Birim Central Municipal Assembly which in these recent times has struggled on several occasions to elect its Presiding Member has finally elected Mr. Castro Asumadu Addae, the Assemblyman for Community two (2) Electoral Area as the Presiding Member.

Mr. Castro stood unopposed after his opponent Mr. Appiah Kubi Emmanuel has withdrawn his nomination to contest the race. Mr. Kubi contested for the position with the elected Presiding Member on 10th June 2020 but all efforts to win proofed futile.

However, in the just-ended election, Mr. Castro Asumadu Addae, the unopposed candidate polled 23 votes out of the 27 ballot cast and was declared as Presiding Member for the said Assembly by the Electoral Commission.

Mr. Castro Asumadu Addae who is occupying the position for the first time was however sworn - in by the Akim Oda Magistrate Court Judge, His Worship Akwasi Appaitse Abaidoo.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Castro Asumadu Addae thanked the Assembly Members for the confidence reposed in him by electing him as the Presiding Member. He urged all Assembly Members to bury their differences and come together as one people with a common destiny to implement the agenda of the Assembly to help improve the living standard of the people.

Mr. Castro Asumadu Addae indicated that the major objectives of the Assembly Membership were for them to help ensure that they brought the needed development to their electoral areas and the entire Municipality. This he said would go a long way to address some of the developmental challenges confronting residents within the Municipality.

Mr. Addae also informed them to bring their expertise to bear as required by the standing orders of the Assembly and lead the House to institute various committees of the Assembly and their memberships.

In a statement made by Mr. Richard Amponsah Agyabeng, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Achiase and Dean of Eastern Regional MDCEs on behalf of the Eastern Regional Minister before the commencement of the above election described Birim Central Municipal Assembly as one of the best hardworking Assemblies in the Eastern Region. According to him the Assembly which was inaugurated on 23rd January 2020 to allow the elected Assembly Member to have an opportunity to discharge their core mandates failed to elect its Presiding Member

He, however, lamented that the failure on the part of the Assembly to elect its Presiding Member after the inaugural program has affected some of the activities that needed to be performed by the Assembly.

He, therefore, called on all Assembly Members to consider the urgent need of development for the Municipality and do the needful to make the Assembly gets Presiding Member.

On 23rd January 2020, the Birim Central Municipal Assembly was inaugurated by Mr. Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Deputy Minister for Justice and Attorney General. At that time, Mr. Andrews Abrokwaa, the then incumbent Presiding Member and Mr. Dadzie Solomon contested for the Presiding Membership race and no one was elected by the Assembly.

Another attempt were given to the aforementioned candidates but none of them was able to secure the required votes qualifying him to be a Presiding Member.
