The Public Affairs Manager of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Ms Aba Lokko has said that the sporadic short-term shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in the system is as a result of the drastic increase in demand by commercial drivers for their vehicles.

The Public Affairs Manager of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Mrs Lokko has said that the sporadic short-term shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in the system is as a result of the drastic increase in demand by commercial drivers for their vehicles.

She noted that the drivers, realizing that the price of petrol has become expensive than LPG, they have resorted to the use of the LPG.

Ms Lokko however said, presently, enough gas is in the system, as a tanker had docked at the port with a huge consignment.

A gallon of petrol sells at 38,400 cedis, while LPG sells at 6,579 per kilo.

But a recent fluctuation in the price of crude oil on the international market is raising fears that the authorities in Ghana would soon increase the prices of petroleum products in the country.

Meanwhile, the Minority Spokesperson on Energy, Dr Kwame Ampofoh, has served notice that the National Democratic Congress would oppose any attempt to increase fuel prices in country.

In an interview with CITI NEWS, he said that instead of passing the high cost of crude on the international market on the poor Ghanaian, government should think of reducing taxes on petroleum products in the country.
