Regional Ministers from across the country have met in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi to plan towards Ghana's 50th independence anniversary celebrations.

Minister of Presidential Affairs, Kwadwo Mpiani, and Chief Executive of the Ghana at 50 planning Secretariat, facilitated the discussions.

Top on the agenda for the discussion was the setting up of regional
committees to compliment the work of the cabinet and national planning
committees as well as the Ghana at 50 Secretariat to ensure a successful
anniversary next year.

The Regional Ministers are also expected to facilitate the formation of
planning committees at the district level, all in a bid to enhance
participation in activities for the anniversary.

Ashanti Regional Minister, Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah, who says his region was already pursuing the planning process with religious zeal, hoped his
colleagues in other parts of the country were also strategizing to reap the
benefits the anniversary promises to bring.

He noted that the anniversary presents an opportunity to showcase the
country's rich culture and tourists sites.

Briefing journalists ahead of the meeting, Minister of Presidential Affairs
and Chief of Staff, Kwadwo Mpiani, underscored the need for the committees.

He said, “the celebration is not met for Accra alone.”

According to him, “this is Ghana's independence, not the capital's independence and therefore we decided that we should let this celebration be felt in all parts of the country, in an effort to ensure that the anniversary brings an activity, pulling different diversity of cultures, people and regions of our country together”.

Mr. Mpiani said the ministers will be required to ensure that members of the committees are people who have demonstrated expertise in specific fields as well as those who have shown commitment to the development of their respective regions.
