Woman Clubs Grandmum To Death

A 23-year-old girl, Ziema Nomoa of Nator-Guore, a village in the Nadowli district of the Upper West Region who allegedly clubbed the grand mother, Aninge Nabawli to death over shea nuts has been arrested by the police.

Ziema whose plea was not taken when she was arraigned before a circuit court here last Monday for murder,was remanded in prison custody by the court presided over by Alhaji Ahmed Mustapha.

Briefing the Spectator on the incident, Detective Corporal Kamal Kwakye of the Nadowli District Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Ziema is the grand daughter of the deceased.

He said on June 5, 2006 the accused and the grand mother went to the bush to pick shea nuts.

According to Corporal Kwakye, a quarrel ensued between the two as to who own the shea nuts they had picked and gathered under a tree.

He said after hot exchanges between them, they later left for the house as it was getting late.

Corporal Kwakye said on reaching home the two began their quarrel again and this time round Ziema who could no longer bear with the situation, picked a wooden stick and chased the grand mother.

The grand mother seeing the danger in the eyes of Ziema took to her heels for dear life but was pursued by Ziema who after few metres from the house caught up with her and hit her on the neck from behind with the stick, killing her instantly, Police Detective Kwakye added.

The Police Detective said a report was made to the police and the accused was arrested and after preliminary investigations charged and put before court.
