The Prampram Health Centre (PHC) has received medical equipment and medicines worth ten thousand dollars from 'Adopt a Village Project' (AVP), a, NGO.
The items, which included operating theatre mats, gowns, scissors, needles, syringes and assorted medicines were presented to the health centre to help it solve the health problems in the town.
Earlier before the donation, representatives of the AVP, which consist of communities in the USA to support the needy, gave free medical screening to the people of Prampram and its surrounding villages.
Dr Paul King, who was in charge of the medical screening told the Ghana News Agency that, among the diseases detected, blood pressure was the highest with others being back and head problems, as well as infectious disease.
He advised blood pressure patients to take their medications serious and to always return to their doctors for examination, when the drugs prescribed for them got finished, as according to him, the disease was a life long one, and warned that, failure to comply would lead to stroke and other ailments.
Donating the items, Dr King stated that, he hoped the items would go a long way to help patients, and promised of more doctors from the AVP to the country to help poor communities.
Mr Hugh Keku Aryee, Chief Executive Officer of Proffworld Link Consult Limited, said as part of his company's contributions to bettering the lives of the poor, his company had agreed with AVP to adopt Prampram to support it with development projects.
He said in November, other paramedics would visit the country for out- reach programmes and medical screening, adding that, businessmen from South Africa would also come to assist in building 2500 homes for the poor.
Dr Charity Adama, Senior Medical Officer of PHC thanked the group for their gesture and called on other NGOs to emulate them to support the sick.
