Ghana's population as of 2016 was 28,481,947

Total Registered Voters in 2016: 15,712,499 (55.2% of the population)

Age 0-19years was 13,782,148

*Scenario 1:*

Assuming 1% of age 0-19years is between 18years and 19years

13,782,148

(137,822)

Therefore, age 0-17years: 13,644, 327

Expected voter population:

28,481,947

(13,644,327)

*14,837,620 (52.09%)*

Actual registered voters: 15,712,499

*Bloated: 874,879*

*Scenario 2:*

Assuming 2% of age 0-19years is between 18years and 19years

Age 0-19years: 13,782,148

(275,643)

Age 0-17years: 13,506,505

Expected voter population:

28,481,947

(13,506,505)

*14,975,445 (52.6%)*

Actual registered voters: 15,712,499

*Bloated: 737,054*

In a country where elections could be won with 40,000 votes, having voters register bloated by at least 737,054 in addition to the E.C revelations that our current voter management system is outdated and foreigners have access to it require an urgent solution to fix it as it has both political and economic implications especially when the source of the bloated voters cannot be ascertained.

A need for a new, credible and robust register is non- negotiable.

To those kicking against the compilation of the new vvoters'register:

Where from the additional 737,054 registered voters at least?

Are they made up of Ghanaians within the 0-17years bracket or foreigners?

Have we considered the economic implications if they are foreigners?

Why is the NDC against the new voters register?
