Some selected religious and traditional leaders, heads of department, and farmers amongst other opinion leaders in the Yendi Municipality have attended an engagement meeting on the COVID-19, aimed at working to curb its spread in the area.

They were taken through the Covid 19 protocols ascribed by government and educated on how to wear face masks, wash hands under running water, social distancing, and attendance to church, mosque, performance of funerals, and on groupings amongst others.

The meeting was organised at Yendi by Dawah Academy, a Tamale faith-based organisation.

Afa- Zie Abdul-Karimu Ibrahim, Director of Dawah Academy, who sensitised participants on the COVID-19 pandemic during the meeting, said it was to improve the capacity of the participants to accelerate action on the fight against the disease in the country.

He said the public education on the COVID-19 being undertaken by Dawah Academy and UNICEF was providing both technical and funding support on the implementation of the programme.

The Director mentioned areas that the public education covered to include; about 320 communities in the Tamale Metropolis, Yendi Municipality, Nanumba South, Nanumba North, Zabzugu, Kpandai, Salaga, North, East Gonja, and West Gonja Districts amongst others, saying mobile vans, radios and other mediums would be used to reach the targeted people.

He called on the participants to go back and spread the message on the COVID-19 pandemic by educating them to adhere to all the safety protocols to help curb the spread of the disease in the country.
