The Thug Got Precisely What He Deserved

Feature Article The Thug Got Precisely What He Deserved
MAY 30, 2020 LISTEN

I knew that Mr. Samuel George Nartey’s dastardly attempt to stall the legitimately scheduled election-preparation workshop organized by the Jean Adukwei Mensa-headed Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) this past April, at the Ningo-Prampram-located Escape Hotel, would literally not amount to the proverbial hill-of-beans. In the end, the plaintiff sheepishly sidled away like a water-drenched pug and was delightfully stuck with a tab of GHȻ 6,000.00 for indulging in such legal frivolity although, initially, Justice Eugene Nyante Nyadu, of the Tema High Court, had misled the plaintiff into believing that the National Democratic Congress’ Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram Constituency, in the Greater-Accra Region, had a substantive case against administrators of the IEC (See “Court Throws Out Sam George’s Suit Against EC, Fines Him GHC 6,000” StarrFM.com / Ghanaweb.com 5/28/20).

I personally called for the sanctioning of Justice Nyante Nyadu because he obviously seemed to have summarily imposed an injunction on the IEC merely on the say-so of Mr. Nartey, without having independently ascertained the fact of whether, indeed, the host and the participants of the workshop slated for April 24 to 29, or thereabouts, were in compliance with the COVID-19 protective measures and guidelines issued by President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his pertinent cabinet appointees of the ruling New patriotic Party (NPP). Well, as was to be expected, the more legally righteous administrators of the Independent Electoral Commission went right ahead with the long pre-scheduled workshop, almost as if no such farcical injunction had been imposed. It was quite obvious that Mr. Nartey was out to doing what the operatives of the main opposition National Democratic Congress are notorious for doing, which was to flagrantly attempt to take the law into their own hands, by literally swamping the immediate environs of the Escape Hotel with vigilante thugs on the day that the workshop was scheduled to begin.

Unfortunately for Mr. Nartey, who was accompanied by another basket case NDC-MP, by the time these hired thugs and vigilantes arrived and massed up in front of the Escape Hotel, National Security Agents had effectively secured the place for the workshop to successfully take place without any lets or hindrances. You see, one would have thought that the plaintiff and his associates and attorneys would go back to court to secure an order of contempt of the court injunction against Mrs. Mensa. But, as it turns, no such tactical and legal move was ever attempted, which readily informed yours truly that the plaintiff’s attorneys might have come to the grim realization of having royally goofed. Earlier on, I had written and published a column in which I wondered aloud over the fact or question of whether the astute legal maven and Chairperson of the IEC had, perhaps, filed a Show-Cause Order in Justice Nyante Nyadu’s court or perhaps even in a higher court of adjudicature.

Whatever the upshot of events, it well appears that the proprietary arrogance of NDC pugs like Mr. Nartey had been effectively put paid to. Henceforth, the Mahama and Asiedu-Nketia Gang has been served a signal notice that there is a new order of business protocol that will not brook any deliberate and dastardly attempt by the political opposition to either criminally regress or mischievously attempt to stall the onward salutary progress of Ghana’s democratic culture. The clearly calculated failure of the Ningo-Prampram NDC-MP to show up in court on Thursday, May 28, on the 86th Birthday Anniversary of the late mother of yours truly, to face off with the respondents may very well be a clear signal that, finally, the Sam George Wing of the National Democratic Congress is fast coming to sobering terms with the fact that, henceforth, it is the will of Ghana’s democratic majority that is apt to determine the course and destiny of the country, and not the whim or caprice of any presumptuous and thuggish politicians with a grossly mistaken sense of entitlement.
