The Northern Regional branch of the ruling New Patriotic Party will not hold elections to replace its chairman who died a couple of months ago.
Some leading members of the NPP in the northern region have expressed interest in replacing Alhaji C.O.P., the former chairman.
But according to the Regional Secretary, Clifford Abdallah Braimah, the party's constitution does not allow any contests in the event of a vacancy in the regional executive.
In a statement, he said first regional vice chairman should now be recognized as the substantive chairman of the NPP in the Northern Region.
The statement asked all those interested in the chairmanship position to hold on till 2009 when nominations would be open for regional elections.
