I Condemn Your Actions—Kofi Ghana Barks At Bui Power Authority
25.05.2020 LISTEN

Independent Presidential Aspirant, Marricke Kofi Gane, (popularly referred to as "Kofi Ghana") over the weekend blasted the Bui Power Authority for its allegedly inhumane actions against hundreds of residents in the Bongase Community of the Bono region.

The Aspirant was reacting to a video report by Joy FM that allegedly captured members of the Bongase community who were distressed after they claimed their shelters and homes were bulldozed and their personal belongings razed with fire, following eviction notices.

In a rather harsh tone from Mr. Gane, he said on his social media wall that "burning down the houses/shelters of Citizens is NOT the way to handle land occupancy infractions or whatever the case might be. Are we in a bloody stone age?? Yes I understand sometimes, people may be relocated and yet find difficulty moving - how was their move supported?"

The Bui Power Authority which has issued a press release since the first media report on 20th May indicated that it was doing what it was mandated to do to protect the buffer zone of the Bui Dam. The Authority said it had given the settlers enough notice and that their action was not ethnically motivated.

Kofi Ghana, on the same issue insisted that Governments ought to show humanism at all times in solving societal conflicts. In his own words, "I am all for modernisation and discipline within society etc, but humanism must be at the centre of our economics, development, and politics."

Below is his Facebook post on Sunday May 24:

Whatever the justification any Public or Bui Power Authority Official will give for this, it must be condemned in every way possible.

Burning down the houses/shelters of Citizens is NOT the way to handle land occupancy infractions or whatever the case might be. Are we in a bloody stone age?? Yes I understand sometimes, people may be relocated and yet find difficulty moving - how was their move supported?

For a Government that prides itself on Human Rights credentials, I hope it sees that this is nothing short of Human Rights Abuse and that it is taking action to safeguard the distress of these citizens, regularize their relocation and that those found culpable are duly punished!

Are we saying we don't have planning or development requirements that ask developers to submit as part of their building permit, how they intend to Consultatively & Satisfactorily deal with, support, or resettle indigenous dwellers?

I am all for modernisation and discipline within society etc, but Humanism must be at the centre of our Economics, Development, and Politics.

Or this one too will be CLEARED?
