The government of Ghana has released an amount of forty million dollars for the construction of water treatment plant for the North Tongu District in the Volta Region, Dangme East and Dangme West districts in the Greater Accra Region.

The first phase of the water project, which started in January this year, is to be completed in November 2007 to provide regular potable water supply for 110 communities in the three districts.

Mr Felix Abeka Quansah, Dangme East District Engineer disclosed this at the first ordinary meeting of the Dangme East District Assembly's fourth session. He indicated that in addition to the amount released by the government, DANIDA Rural Water Resource Development is also supporting the project.

Mr Quansah, however, stated that, beneficiary communities were to pay five per cent of the total cost and urged them to start contributing towards it, so they could get potable water by the end of 2008.
