An inner member of the Convention Peoples Party, Mr Kwesi Akoto, has indicated that, not less than 10 high profile members of the Party have shown interest in leading the CPP to the 2008 elections.

A statement issued in Accra yesterday, and signed by Mr Akoto, National Organiser of the party, said, he has confirmation that the CPP National Chairman and leader, Dr Edmund Delle, and former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Kwabena Dufuor, would put themselves forward as the party's flagbearer.

Other people, he mentioned in the terse press statement are Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, Minister of Public Sector Reform and MP for Komenda- Edina- Eguafo- Abirem, Professor Agyeman Badu Akosah, Director General of the Ghana Health Service, and a number of “Patriots”, a group affiliated to Nkrumaism, Dr Sam Jonah, former Chief Executive of Ashanti Goldfields Limited and George Opesika Aggudey, the 2004 flagbearer.

The rest are Major Kojo Boakye- Djan, of erstwhile AFRC, Dr Edward Mahama, PNC leader, Dr Nii Noi Thompson, an economic consultant and Dr Kweku Sarfo, formerly of Miero Projects.

In a follow up interview Mr Akoto said all candidates intending to lead the party, can match the candidates from other leading parties, NPP and NDC boot for boot.
“These are all credible CPP presidential candidates who can each beat the NPP and NDC candidates,” he stated.
