The National Democratic Congress (NDC) running mate Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang says she is disappointed in whoever suggested the double track system for second cycle education.

The double track system was introduced when as a result of the implementation of the Free SHS policy by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in 2017, enrolment in second cycle schools saw an unprecedented increment and the government had to ensure all qualified candidates did not miss secondary education.

Members of the NDC have been berating the Free SHS policy and its accompanying double track system and have vowed to scrap it when they win the December elections.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, who has been chosen by Mr. Mahama to partner him for the December general election, has been on a campaign tour of the Western Region, and she said on Takoradi-based 'Sharp FM' on Monday that the NPP copied the double service style used by the churches for the double track initiative.

“Everyone refused to ask questions when the NPP initiated the free senior high school policy. But when NDC decided to include private senior high schools and abolish the double track system, everyone is asking questions,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, who was Minister of Education under Mr. Mahama's presidency, pointed out.

“We built E-blocks. Now students are finding it difficult to study because of double track and that is why we will build more schools to abolish the double track,” she promised.

Palace Visits

The NDC running mate later paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene of Essikado Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketia V.

The chief prayed for the successful campaign of the running mate and assured her of their support and wise counsel, adding that a good venture is worth supporting.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang thanked the chiefs for their expression of support and assured them that she and the NDC would continue to pursue an issues-based campaign.

“This election is about performance record, and so we will continue to showcase our achievements and fulfilled promises for Ghanaians to judge,” she indicated.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged the people of Essikado to return the NDC to power to continue the various developmental projects the previous administration started for the people of the area.
