Kris Stars wins Malta Guinness Street Dance Africa competition

After three rounds of fun packed and skilled competition at the Nation Theatre on Friday night, the dance group, Kris Stars emerged the 2009 winners of the second edition of the Malta Guinness Street Dance Africa competition.

The completion which started two years ago seeks to unearth fresh talents on the streets who can dance to the international dancing scene.

The first edition saw 2 Puff emerging as the winners in Ghana and the eventual continental winners in Africa.

Ten dance groups were selected from the ten regions of the country after initial regional competitions.

The ten groups went through three rounds of intense dance competition all hoping to be crowned as the winners. The three rounds saw the number cut down from ten to five and then to the final three winners.

After the whole show, Kris Stars emerged as winners and they took home Ghc 5000, Malta Guinness supply and also the opportunity to represent Ghana at the Pan African competition.

High Spirits emerged as first runner up and Canadians as the second runner up. They took home Ghc 2000 with Malta Guinness supply and Ghc 1000 with Malta Guinness supply respectively.

The Managing Director of Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited (GGBL), Mr. Ekwunife Okoli said Ghana has become a formidable force in the street dance field in Africa and they can take that to the international scene.

He said he hopes the new winners Kris Stars will emulate the feat achieved by the inaugural winners 2 Puff who went on to become the Pan African winners. He urged them to go on to even become the winners.

Ama Okyere, the Marketing Director of GGBL said the Malta Guinness Street Dance Africa competition is an opportunity to for the youth to express their talents and Malta Guinness is proud to be a part of it.
