UNAIDS country director Girmay Haile has bemoaned the lack of investment interest in Ghana's movie industry and stressed the need for change.

He noted that the movie industry is one of the cost-effective areas of the economy, adding that it has great potentials but it needs investors to help realise some of the potentials.

Girmay Haile was speaking at the Golden Movie Award's corporate screening at the Oak Plaza Hotel in Accra last Thursday.

The screening was to get the corporate community connect with stakeholders in the movie industry.

Present at the ceremony were veteran actress Grace Omaboe, aka Maame Dokonno, Adjetey Anang, Naa Ashorkor Mensah Doku, Nikki Samonas, Nana Ama McBrown, Shirley Frimpong Manso and a host of others.

'There is no direct investment interest in this industry and I want to employ investors to keep an open eye on the movie industry,' Mr Girmay Haile said.

Ghana's movie industry has produced some fine actors who are making a mark for themselves. But there is no regulated support system to help the industry grow further.

There were reports of producers folding up their productions because they were not making profit. The current power crisis has obviously affected production. Corporate interest for the movie industry is also lacking. But Girmay Haile says it is not too late.
