Organisers of the Club Miss Tourism Ghana pageant, which was introduced four years ago to groom young pretty and intelligent ladies to sell Ghana’s tourism offerings at home and abroad are punching the air for the huge success of their latest edition which came off a few days ago.

According to the Events Director at Miss Tourism Ghana Organization (MTGO), Mrs Delphine Brew-Hammond, the pageant attracted only a handful of potential beauty queens fours ago when it was launched, “but we now have tens of smart ladies presenting themselves at our auditions. And this year, we have had a wonderful show”.

Mrs Brew-Hammond told Showbiz that, “the objective of the event is to use the beauty pageant platform to stir up the interest of the youth in the nation’s tourism development drive”.

So far winners of the contest have participated in tourism promotion activities in the UK, Germany, Zimbabwe and across Ghana. They have also formed tourism clubs in schools to promote travelling.

And it appears the initiative has begun to yield some positive results already as was evident when the Minister of Tourism, Hon. Akua Sena Dansua expressed her joy at the turn of events as she crowned this year’s winner, Miss Esinam Awonyo of the Volta Region as CLUB-Miss Tourism Ghana 2012.

Esinam will represent Ghana as an Ambassador for the Tourism Industry for the next one year. Ten beautiful and intelligent ladies contested for the crown.

Nancy Antwiwaa Baah representing the Northern Region was crowned First Princess by the Zimbabwean Ambassador, Her Excellency Pavelyn Tandei Musaka, while Ms. Maria Lovell, organizer of Miss Tourism Ghana-UK and CEO of Ghana Society decorated Clementina Yelim Boapeah of the Upper West Region, as the Second Princess.

The contestants took turns to sell their respective regions, inviting the world to visit Ghana. They did that by presenting insightful messages on Ghana’s beaches, culture, environment, gastronomy, health, heritage, road safety and sports. The show was held on the theme, “Linking Cultures”.

The beauties also contested for prizes in entrepreneurship, cooking, hair and skin-care, photography, eloquence and swim wear fashion, all geared towards making them solid tourism ambassadors.

Hiplife group, Praye rocked the house with their sizzling performance.

Accra Brewery Limited was the title sponsor of the show. It was also supported by Crown Apartamento Hotel, Metropolitan Insurance, Lele Foods, Voltic, Emefa Jewellery, British Council, Trassaco Valley, and Coconut Grove Hotels and Resort, among others.
