Keisha Is New Ecowas Queen
A confident and articulate Keisha Ferguson received a rapturous ovation at the National Theatre when she swept aside 14 other contestants to take the crown at the fifth Miss ECOWAS Ghana Peace pageant last Friday.
Keisha 20, a third year student at the University of Ghana reading English and Theatre Arts endeared herself to the judges and the enthusiastic audience with her poise, intelligence, confidence, expression and grasp of current issues.
Beside the crown she took home Gh¢ 3,000, a set of furniture, a laptop computer donated by Yamtech, fabrics and other goodies.
The first- runner up was Emmanuella Naa Besa Nunoo, 21, aspiring to enter university this year and the second was Anita Akua Akufo,21, a third year student of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology , reading Geography and Rural Development.
Special prizes were awarded. Best Traditional Costume went to Yaa Boatemaa Agyekum; Miss Congeniality was won by Emmanuella Naa Besa Nunoo; Miss Photogenic was won by Ida Seidu; and the Best Peace Message prize went to Emmanuella Naa Besa Nunoo.
The show which started a bit late began with all 15 contestants coming on stage to introduce themselves, after which the number was pruned to nine.
Then came the question time and based on how well the questions were answered, the judges now cut the numbers to five. The remaining five contestants were asked a general question on how Ghana can become the most peaceful country in the world.
After the five contestants had answered the question, it was clear who the winner was - Keisha Ferguson! She will present Ghana in ECOWAS Peace pageant in Nigeria and run a peace campaign in all the 10 regions.
Miss ECOWAS Ghana is an initiative of 702 Productions and supported by the ECOWAS Commission headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.
This year’s show had performances from Amandzeba, Keche and Gyedu Blay Ambolley.
