This year's edition of Joy FM's Family Party in the Park, the largest family outdoor gathering, was held last Saturday at the Legon Botanical Gardens in Accra.

The event attracted a large number of families including a bevy of beauties from Ghana's Most Beautiful pageant on TV3, who came to wiggle and boogie to good music and food.

The outdoor family fun party which kicked off at 9am in the morning was aimed at bringing family members together to spend good quality time and have fun away from home.

In the comfortable shades of the 'forested' trees of the Botanical Gardens, fathers were cuddling, nannying, or walking little family members, while moms spread varieties of family favourite camping foods and games.

Kids ran after one bouncy castle or chased a cartoon character or went for face and body painting, while others went horse riding.

Everywhere one turned, a happy smile planted on the lips of a partying individual elicited a good requite, and even when the rains threatened to dampen an otherwise sun-shining day, spirits remained flamboyantly high - no, the rains were not going to spoil anyone's day.

The rains did pour down, seeping through the canopy of green leaves mounted by the garden trees, and managed momentarily to scatter revellers - everyone dashing for cover under the many tents or large umbrellas provided by organizers – a great forethought.

And even while the rains poured, several culinary dishes steamed hot, flavoured by Onga seasonings, and little queues here and there picnicked pleasantly.

But the big mamas who predictably managed to break one of the chairs provided for musical chairs when a pair of them, in a contest for survival, brought down their weight to bear on the 'miserable' chair, stole the show, goaded by Joy FM's DJs Black, Gabby Adjetey, Jamie, Nii Ayi Tagoe and Bola as well as live band music by the Shabo Crew.

The men were not completely outdone though - they also provided some of the most exciting moments competing for first place in the Azonto dance competition, only to be found out to be now picking lessons on how to even shake their legs and little funny butts.

And the young, of course, gave a show, twisting and turning, be it during dancing or musical chairs.

You may not want to be left out of spending quality time with the family the next time the bell tolls, or you will have to wait for me to come and paint a picture of the little I saw for you.

The party was sponsored by Onga from Promasidor (manufacturers of Cowbell), Schwepps Malt from Coca Cola, Clique from Expresso, Yes Mineral Water and Cal Kiddie Save Account from Cal Bank.
