There has been an outburst of fire at the National Control Centre of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria in Osogbo, Osun State.

The fire incident which affected a transformer at the Control Centre started around 3am and raged till after 9am.

Fire fighters were seen attempting to quench the fire at the scene of the incident. Meanwhile, members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, soldiers and staff of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) were controlling the movement of vehicles and people at the centre.

The NCC, Osogbo, is one of the transmission centres for the distribution of generated electricity in the country.

The incident which is expected to worsen the 'dodgy' power supply situation in the country has already put several areas in the state in
darkness. Deputy Governor of Osun State, Mrs Titi Laoye-Tomori had visited the scene by the time we went to press.
