GHC150 COVID-19 Donations By MP to Constituency: Only In Ahafo

Member of Ghana's Parliament representing the people of Asutifi North in the newly created Ahafo Region, Mr Benhazin Joseph Dahah has donated his 'widows mite' to help combat COVID-19.

Making the presentation to his constituent, he presented 2 buckets of Veronica Bucket, at a unit cost of GHC50, 2 bottles of liquid soap at a unit cost of GHC5 and tissue paper all amounting to GHC150.

Coronavirus - Libya: People caught between bullets, bombs and now COVID-19

ICRC fears that the virus will compound the suffering of conflict-affected families, who are already struggling to meet basic needs, from shelter to food, water, and medical care

TUNIS, Tunisia, April 12, 2020/ -- Hundreds of thousands of Libyans are caught in an intensifying conflict as COVID-19 threatens to spread and debilitate the country's fragile health system. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) fears that the virus will compound the suffering of conflict-affected families, who are already struggling to meet basic needs, from shelter to food, water, and medical care.

Bawumia Commends UG Scientists For Successful Sequence COVID-19 Genomes

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has commended scientists at the University of Ghana (UG) for a successful sequenced genome of SARS-CoV-2, "to help track mutations, trace community infections” of Covid-19.

The scientists, who work at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR – College of Health Sciences) and the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP – College of Basic and Applied Sciences) at the University, analysed samples from selected cases to gain a comprehensive understanding of the variations of the virus that are present in the country.

Covid-19: Pope uses Easter to thank frontline workers who compromise their health to save lives

It was a very different Easter Sunday for Romans this year, one they are unlikely to forget. No one was allowed to leave their homes, not even to attend the Pope's traditional Easter Mass, due to the lockdown in place across the country.  This year like many others faithful all over the world they watched it on television or livestreamed on the Internet. 

Pope Francis celebrated Easter Sunday Mass and then delivered his traditional “Urbi et Orbi” message, to the city and to the world, from inside a largely empty Saint Peter's Basilica.  With him, some of his close collaborators and a number of chosen faithful siting one per pew.

1,900 crew of French aircraft carrier go into quarantine after Covid-19 outbreak

The Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier docked in the southern French port of Toulon early Sunday afternoon, with fifty cases of Covid-19 on board. All personnel will go into a two-week quarantine, and the vessel will be disinfected.

The nuclear-powered carrier, the flagship of the French navy, returned to port 11 days earlier than planned because of the coronavirus breakout on board. The armed forces ministry said Saturday that fifty sailors had contracted the virus.

COVID-19: Ga East Hospital Gets Additional 100-bed Facility

Some Ghanaian professionals are teaming up with the Ministry of Health and Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) for the construction of a 100-bed facility for the Ga East Municipal hospital, a primary treatment centre for COVID-19 in Ghana.

The project is expected to be completed within six weeks. The engineers and architects have since Thursday, April 9, 2020, been working round the clock to get the design ready for take-off.

Covid-19: Peter Toobu Recommends ‘Customized Total Lockdown’ For Africa

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Wa West Constituency, Supt (Rtd) Peter Lanchene Toobu has recommended what he calls, a customized total lockdown (CTL) of all African countries amidst the spread of the novel coronavirus across the globe.

According to him, “the underlying assumption of CTL is for all African Countries to plan with the worst-case scenario of 0.4% of the population as a guide. For instance, Ghana (population of 30 million) with an assumption of 0.4% will have to plan with a total figure of 120,000 people in mind.”

New Juaben North MP Donates Towards Coronavirus Prevention

Nana Adjei Boateng, Member of Parliament for New Juaben North, has donated sanitary items worth 100,000 cedis to households and public institutions in the area to prevent the spread of the COVID-19.

The items included 150 Veronica handwashing facilities, 150 dust bins, 150 rolls of paper tissues and 8,000 pieces of 100 and 200 MLS of hand sanitizers to be distributed to every household in the Constituency.

Covid-19: I Prophesied That They Should Close Borders But Ignoramuses Spoke ignorantly; They Didn't Listen — Dag Heward-Mills

The founder and presiding bishop of the Lighthouse Group of Churches, Dag Heward-Mills, has said before COVID-19 entered Ghana, he and the Ghana Charismatic Bishops' Conference had prophesied it and he, in particular, warned that the country’s borders be closed a week before that was done.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has left hospital after being treated for coronavirus, but will not immediately return to work, Downing Street says.

Coronavirus: Ghana COVID-19 Private Sector Fund To Construct 100-Bed Isolation, Treatment Facility

The Ghana COVID-19 Private Sector Fund, a private sector led initiative has set out a major plan to construct a 100-bed COVID-19 Treatment and Isolation facility to complement government efforts to contain the coronavirus.

Construction works on the new facility is expected to commence on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 and scheduled to be completed between three to six weeks after take-off.

COVID-19: 70 Doctors Trained To Support Govt's Risk Communication, Public Education

Vodafone Ghana Foundation in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service, has trained some medical practitioners in the country on relevant disciplines to support government’s risk communication and public education campaign on COVID-19.
