Covid-19: 83% Of Critically Ill Persons Have Fully Recovered – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo said 44 out of the 53 persons with COVID-19 who were critically ill in Ghana have fully recovered.

He indicated that the figure represents 83 percent of infected persons at the various Intensive Care Units (ICU) across health facilities in the country to have been discharged.

Mr Aaron Amedzro, Ho Municipal Environmental Health Officer has appealed to the government to resource Coronavirus burial teams for “effective” and safe internment of victims of the pandemic.

He said the support given the burial teams was low despite the risk of infection and called for prayers for the team members.

Star-studded virtual concert raises over 6 billion euros for Covid-19 vaccine

Coldplay, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Hudson and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson teamed up with the European Commission and the advocacy group Global Citizen for a fundraising drive that raised 6.15 billion euros for research to find a vaccine for the coronavirus. The virtual concert was streamed live across the world on Saturday.

The event began with a pledge from European Union Commission president Ursula von der Leyen of 4.9 billion euros from the European Investment Bank, in partnership with the commission.

France votes in run-off municipal elections after three month Covid-19 delay

Polling stations are open across France for the second round of municipal elections, three months after the first round was postponed due to Covid-19. Over 16 million people are eligible to vote in what is seen as a key test for President Emmanuel Macron's ruling party. After a restricted period of campaigning, the level of abstention is expected to be high.

Run-off elections will be held in 4,827 cities and towns around France where the first round of votes on 15 March was not decisive, with some 16.5 million adults eligible to participate.

In his quest to mitigate the spread of Coronavirus in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality, the municipal chief executive (MCE) for the area, Dr. Isaac Dasmani on Saturday, June 27 stormed the Bogoso market to check on the traders level of compliance with Covid-19 safety etiquette.

The exercise was aimed at enforcing the President’s directive on the mandatory use of nose masks to public places and to uphold public safety to assure residents that the markets are safe to trade.

Nigeria: COVID-19: SERAP Asks Court To Order FG, CBN To Name Beneficiaries Of Cash Payments, Donations

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit asking the Federal High Court, Abuja to order the Federal Government and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to “publicly identify and name Nigerians who have so far benefited from any cash payments, cash transfers, food distribution and other reliefs and palliatives during the lockdown in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states because of COVID-19.”

In the suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/657/2020 filed last week, SERAP is seeking: “an order for leave to apply for judicial review and an order of mandamus to compel Ms Sadia Umar-Farouk, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disasters Management and Social Development, and Mr Godwin Emefiele, CBN governor, to publish spending details of public funds and private sector donations to provide socio-economic benefits to the country’s poorest and most vulnerable people.”

Tetrete Foundation Reaches Out To Traders, Taxi Drivers On COVID-19

Tetrete Foundation (TF), a non-governmental organisation with links to the Wassa Amenfi Traditional Council has donated 3, 000 face masks to traders, taxi drivers, and Pragya drivers as well as the vulnerable in three capital towns in the Amenfi enclave.

The organisation also supplied 2, 000 flyers bearing directives and guidelines on the prevention of COVID-19.

The Atiwa East National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has since the inception of COVID-19 sensitized people in the District on the pandemic. The exercise has educated communities within the district on how the virus spread; signs and symptoms of the disease; prevention and treatment; Destigmatisation of victims of the virus, myth busters as well as presidential Directives aimed at tackling the spread of the disease.

The campaign was also targeted at enhancing citizens understanding and appreciation of the pandemic and why they should follow the safety protocols outlined by the Ghana Health Service and the World Health Organisation.
