COVID-19: Dominase SDA Hospital Staff Contribute To Buy PPE Worth Ghc10,000

Some health workers at Dominase SDA Hospital in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region have no option but to purchased Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worth GHS10,000 from their voluntary contributions.

The cash was contributed by medical doctors, nurses, midwives, allied health workers, the chaplain, orderlies and security personnel of the facility to augment the fight against COVID-19.

Covid-19: 146 Patients Recover In Central Region

A total of 146 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 in the Central Region have fully recovered.

Dr Akosua Owusu-Sarpong, the Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), briefing stakeholders on the status of the disease in the Region, said 9,570 of the 11,754 specimen sent to the various testing centres came out negative.

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned the public about the use of Dexameihasone for the treatment of Covid-19.

“Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid medicine that can only be prescribed by a licensed medical practitioner for specific indications and can have some serious side effects.”

Identity For Development In Post-COVID19 Africa

Addis Ababa, 17 June 2020 (ECA) - “COVID-19 has enabled us to explore new platforms and ways of identifying people,” said Vera Songwe, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) who suggested that digital platforms such as Facebook, Google could help “change the way we do censuses, identify, and locate people.”

She made the remarks on 17 June 2020 during a webinar organized by ID4Africa to discuss issues related to ID for development in a COVID and post-COVID Africa. Ms. Songwe noted that access to ICT will be crucial to enable Africa to build back.

The Upper East Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Winfred Ofosu has described as unnecessary calls for the closure of the Pwalugu police training school after 199 police recruits from the training school tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Covid-19: New Guidelines Released For Discharging Patients

Ghana has reviewed its COVID-19 discharge policy to ease pressure on health facilities.

At a press briefing on Thursday morning, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Aboagye, explained that the review will affect patients who do not display symptoms of the virus and patients whose symptoms die down during treatment.
