In 2015, when Eric Vondee was just 21, he offered maths classes to a student in his neighbourhood who had difficulties assimilating the theoretical concepts in maths.

This was after he had had a discussion with the student on why she was failing in the subject. The student called Abigail improved considerably after the maths classes and this led to the birth of his businesss, My Home Teacher.

"After my encounter with Abigail, my attention was drawn to students who perform poorly in school and the fact that they will need special attention from a teacher to improve," Vondee said in an interview with modernghana.com

He believed his idea would succeed because, " I realised that every parent wants the best for their children in terms of academics, so they will go the extra mile to get a private teacher for them."

My Home Teacher connects parents to well-qualified teachers to tutor their wards at home in any subject and has since its initiation, helped about 50 students.

The business has chalked some considerable amount of success by receiving about 5 awards. The journey hasn't been smooth sailing though.

" One of the challenges I faced is combining business and academics. There is so much stress on me trying to put up the best performance in my academics and also successfully managing the business. Also, getting parents to patronage the business in order to increase market share is quite challenging."

Part of the aims of establishing My Home Teacher was to solve the escalating rate of unemployment by providing teaching jobs to graduates.

"My Home Teacher is aimed at providing effective teaching and learning atmosphere for students from Primary, Junior High and Senior High School at the comfort of their homes. It also seeks to bring school to the homes of students where students are taught various subjects such as Mathematics, English, and Integrated Science etc," Vondee averred.

The business has as part of its long term goals to extend its services to all the ten regions in Ghana, thereby increasing revenue stream.

The 23- year old has over 5 years of experience in business and entrepreneurship specifically focusing on education. He is also experienced in journalism, social media marketing, acting, investment and career/personal Branding. He was once named as part of Top 60 Young Leaders in Ghana,
